We at digi-emp highly recommend that you use a security plugin as standard on every website you own/run.

there are many to choose from, but over the last 10-12 yrs or so, i have only used Wordfence plugin, it is by far the best all round plugin i have ever used.

i have/had many websites over the years and on one occasion i forgot to add wordfence plugin and the website was attacked within 2 hrs (GRRRRRR).

So please please use a security plugin you can get the free version of wordfence (limited options) from your wp-admin plugin repository, then update to pro version when your ready.
